Hooray, Feijenoord is celebrating its birthday! This year the neighborhood is exactly 200 years old. This will be extensively celebrated together with everyone who lives and works there. Until December, the area will be dedicated to pride, creativity, and neighborhood stories.
A unique ten-day program with a Ferris wheel and a party tent at De Kaai will be the highlight of the celebration from August 21 to 30, 2026. All Rotterdammers are welcome to join the festivities. The year 1826 is a historic milestone. 200 years ago, the development of the then-island Feijenoord as a residential area began. At the end of the 19th century, the city expanded further south of the Nieuwe Maas. Many homes were built for port workers. Feijenoord grew into a well-known working-class neighborhood. Therefore, 2026 is an anniversary year. To celebrate, various activities will take place until the end of the year. From meetings and performances to neighborhood walks and workshops.
Festive program
De Kaai, the former Unilever site, is the central location of the program. From August 21 to 30, a Ferris wheel and a party tent will be here. Each day has a different theme, such as cleaning up together, moving, reading, singing, dancing, and eating. Daily you can explore the area on foot with interesting guided tours or get an ice cream at the pop-up ice cream parlor in the Bridge Keeper’s Cottage. Every evening you can enjoy local music and meals in the party tent.

Museum of the Future
In honor of the 200th anniversary, the first Museum of the Future will also open. A neighborhood museum “on the street” where stories from residents are heard at various locations, such as in entryways and community centers. And through headphones in the Ferris wheel! They share their memories and dreams for the neighborhood. This museum is never finished but grows with the neighborhood, its residents, and new stories that arise. The museum is an initiative of the Wijkcollectie Foundation and will continue to exist after the celebration.
