Sunday, September 13 is the day and Fiesta Futura brings the atmosphere of a lavish wedding straight to Zuiderpark in Rotterdam. The line-up consists of an explosion of party music from all corners of the world. The program is further complemented by six weddings-for-a-day, workshops, a children’s program and a market. Admission is free.
“At the festival of the future, you never know what will happen, but one thing is certain: you can get married for one day and completely let loose to fat beats from all over the world.” – Guido de Groot, director
Line-up
On the Big Fat Stage, the main stage, De Baron provides a unifying party, the Rotterdam Cape Verdean Tabanka brings a fresh take on funaná, Los Bitchos blend cumbia, surf rock, Turkish psychedelia, Latin American rhythms, disco and numerous other influences into their own sound, with Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem the East meets the West in a melting pot of styles, and Balkan Paradise Orchestra closes the day with ten brass, woodwind and percussion players in an energetic concert.
On the Small Fat Stage the day starts with a musical odyssey by the Fabijan Balkan Brass Band from Germany, followed by the Rotterdam TECA with the authentic Shroombia sound. Then follows La Caravane Passe with a double journey through the music of East and South Europe, the Finnish Muovipussi brings punk-like energy and the Afro-Cuban Evelyn Dupuy delivers a sound that feels alive in her very first performance in Rotterdam.
Wedding Barn
Something special will happen on Sunday in the Wedding Barn: six couples will be married there for one day in My Big Fat Roffa Wedding. During a Moroccan, Yemeni, Balkan and Greek wedding, they will say their vows for the duration of Fiesta Futura. Wassima, Omar Alshahari, Fabijan Balkan Brass Band and Matsa Ranga provide the musical accompaniment for the weddings.
Workshops, children’s program and market
In addition to the musical program, there is a cozy intimate market with products from all over the world and children experience their own adventures in the festive children’s program. In workshops, visitors get to know capoeira, juggling and other Brazilian arts under the guidance of the Kriya family (known from Got Talent Portugal), learn Brazilian samba or Cape Verdean rhythms under the guidance of Lita Morena (known from Rotterdam Summer Carnival), and can discover the swinging rhythms of Balkan music under the guidance of Balkan Fusion Dance.
