Waste collection in Rotterdam has restarted. City management resumed work on Thursday to clean up waste and empty containers in the city. Various teams first collect waste around neighborhood containers, after which the underground containers themselves are also emptied. Waste is initially mainly collected along roads that are easily passable. That is not the case everywhere in Rotterdam. Meanwhile, City management continues to operate 24-hour shifts to combat slipperiness. Therefore, it will take a few days before the waste is cleared everywhere.

Household containers

Household containers are also being emptied again. We first drive through the streets where the containers that could not be emptied in recent days to empty remaining containers are located. Christmas trees

Christmas trees left on the street will remain there for now. The municipality collects Christmas trees later separately so that the trees can be processed separately into biomass and compost.  

Weather forecast

The slipperiness still causes waste to be collected less quickly and not everywhere. This may continue until the weekend, as severe winter weather is forecast again. The people collecting waste are also the ones spreading grit, sweeping, and doing other tasks to keep roads free of snow and slipperiness. Countering slipperiness takes priority over waste collection. In general: if a container is full, do not put waste beside the container. Keep your waste at home for now until the container is emptied.

For bulky waste

Bulky waste appointments that have already been made will continue. It may happen that we cannot reach bulky waste in slippery, narrow streets. Has your bulky waste not been collected? We have not forgotten you. As soon as possible, we will come to collect your bulky waste. No new appointments for bulky waste collection can be scheduled at this time. This means waiting times for an appointment will be longer. You can bring your bulky waste to the recycling center yourself for free.

Grit salt

At those recycling centers, you can also collect free grit salt. At several locations of neighborhood cleaning teams (WRT locations), you can also pick up grit salt. The supply of free bags of grit salt is currently going very fast. Restocking bags at the locations is currently difficult due to weather conditions, and the stock is rapidly running low. So it may happen that you arrive at a location where the grit salt bags are out of stock. Our apologies for that. As an alternative, use table salt, which works just as well as grit salt. We advise 15 grams per m². A handful of table salt can cover a large part of your sidewalk. Make sure the sidewalk is free of snow first.

Bike point closed until January 16 

Due to winter weather conditions, collection of bikes, mopeds, and scooters at the bike point is not possible until January 16. Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
