Waste collection in Rotterdam has resumed. City management resumed work on Thursday to clean up waste and empty containers in the city. Several teams first collect waste around neighborhood containers, after which the underground containers themselves are also emptied. Initially, waste is mainly collected along roads that are easily passable. This is not the case everywhere in Rotterdam. Meanwhile, City management continues to operate 24-hour shifts to combat slipperiness. It will therefore take a few days before the waste has been cleared everywhere.

Household containers

Household containers are being emptied again. We first drive through the streets where containers that could not be emptied in recent days to empty leftover containers. Then we start the routes that are scheduled for today. Has your container still not been emptied? We ask for your understanding and ask you to put the container back. Via the Waste guide. Christmas trees

Christmas trees left on the street are still being left there for now. The municipality will collect Christmas trees separately later so that the Christmas trees can be processed separately into biomass and compost.  

Weather forecast

Slipperiness still means that waste can be collected less quickly and not everywhere. This may last until the weekend, as severe winter weather is forecast again. The people who collect the waste are also the people who spread grit, sweep, and do other things to keep roads free of snow and slipperiness. Combating slipperiness takes priority over waste collection. In general: if a container is full, do not put waste next to the container. Keep your waste at home a little longer until the container is emptied.

For bulky waste

Bulky waste appointments already made will proceed. It can happen that in slippery, narrow streets we cannot access the bulky waste. Has your bulky waste not been collected? We have not forgotten you. As soon as it is possible, we will come to collect your bulky waste. No new appointments can currently be scheduled for bulky waste collection. That means waiting times for an appointment will increase. You can still bring your bulky waste to the recycling center free of charge yourself.

Gritting salt

At the recycling centers you can also collect gritting salt for free. You can also pick up gritting salt at several neighborhood cleaning team (WRT) locations. The stock of free bags of gritting salt is currently running out quickly. Restocking bags of gritting salt at the locations is currently difficult due to weather conditions, and the stock is also rapidly decreasing. So it may happen that you arrive at a location where the gritting salt bags are gone. Our apologies for that. Use table salt as an alternative; it works just as well as gritting salt. We recommend 15 grams per m2. A handful of table salt can cover a large part of your sidewalk. Make sure the sidewalk is free of snow first.

Bike point closed until January 16 

Due to the wintry weather conditions, collecting bicycles, mopeds, and scooters at the bike point is not possible until January 16. Apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
